Fossil hunters - Seatown, Dorset

Add caption

D uring scouring tides, Seatown turns into an ‘ammonite kingdom’. Fossils can simply be picked up along the foreshore. there are many fossils that can be found in Seatown, and we were able to find Ammonites and Belemnites (like a squid). These were found in the loose rocks on the foreshore and in the clay of the cliffs. These fossils are about 210 million years old from the early Jurassic period. No dinosaurs though.

Great morning although we were racing an incoming tide and an angry churning sea. Dramatic rough seas for gouging away at the cliff to expose more fossils, but not for a leisurely stroll along the beach.
