3 January - off to Barcelona

Early start this morning and a long walk to Atocha train station. Not a hard way but easier than trying to buy tickets and get on and then off the train the trains in the peak hour of the morning.

The tickets we bought (still reeling over how expensive they were) included breakfast so that was one less thing we had to think about this morning. The train trip was a fast two and a half hours ( of which I slept most despite wanting to see the countryside). When we arrived in Barcelona a lovely staff member helped us find the right train to take us to our accommodation- which was included in our train fare. Thank goodness.

Our accommodation was not available until 3pm so we placed our luggage in the storage facility of friendly rentals. We had a 3.30 free tour booked so we headed off to meet our guide.

The tour was very informative and we got to have a good look around Barcelona. We got to see many of Gaudí buildings from the street and the guide was also able to take us through a few commercial shops to see the Gaudí buildings from a different perspective. We caught the train to Sagrada Familiar and got to see it outside in the night lights.

We caught a taxi back to our luggage storage (cheaper for us than metro tickets) and checked into our new accommodation.

The new place is spacious and light. We are here for a few nights so the first things we do - washing. Never ends...
